I really want to give this five stars. It’s a relentless satire on the drift towards a rejection of intelligence. It takes the laudable move from abusive and hurtful language used to describe people of lower IQ to extremes -in effect, the denial that there are differences in IQ… that everyone can indeed become a brain surgeon - it’s not rocket science! We will, for example, no longer be able to say what many of us believe that the world is been taken over by idiots. The difficulty in reading the extract is that the satire is so scathing and relentless, that even in this short extract it becomes rather boring! You want to scream, yes, we get the idea! However, it will be interesting to see how this can be sustained throughout the novel. It is after all painfully close to what is happening.
