I am immediately interested to read any new work from the author of We Need To Talk About Kevin.
The start of this book is both fascinating and stressful, delving into an alternative 2011 where it has become cultural law that everyone's intelligence is equal, and it is offense to use words like stupid or dumb. The real stress of this first chapter - and I imagine the whole book, is the very slight side step that this concept is from many people's perspective on the real world today. It seems to be exploring this concept of "political correctness gone mad" that conservatives often talk about as though we are already living in this fascitic post-freedom of thought world. I'm very interested to see how the book goes, and how it makes me feel, as a liberal who often finds myself on the side of the argument fighting for new ways of thinking, and banishing old offensive ways, which I believe diminish other people.
