This is a rather complicated book. It is well written, and romps along, describing a world (in the USA) where where the "correctness" regime has gone to the extreme, everybody is equal and so exams are discriminatory, and qualifications not allowed. The results are unqualified doctors (as operating on the heroine's husband to dire effect) buildings that fall down and trains that crash. This is a logical (and frightening) extrapolation of the current situation in the UK. The book ends with the world over-reacting and only high IQs count! Speaking out against the stupid (oops, mustn't use that word) ideology means that heroine loses her job, has her children taken away, and cannot have any other job as she is denied all credibility, including financial. Although the narrative flows fast, it is not smooth, a bit like a car going over corrugated iron. It is American, so has their version of English, and references people and institutions (referred to by initials) that you may not know. It is quite a large book, but only 278 pages. The paper used is quite rough quality, and the cover rather thin and the design garish. The author has written and had published many successful books, but this is not one of her best.
