Mania is a brilliant book for lovers of a dystopian novel. In this instance we are taken to an alternative history where being stupid was made illegal.

Pearson Converse is not happy with this new world view. And struggles to understand why those around her seem to be going with it. Pearson struggles to be able to control her views and she is in danger of losing everything in order to maintain her principles.

In contrast, she best friend Emory, seems to be going with the flow of the changes and using it to her advantage. What can be the danger of everyone being seen as equally intelligent? Does it matter if you doctor/lawyer/tree surgeon is not intelligent?

The book is very well constructed. Throwing in a twist at the end which enables balance/further makes the original point.

A thought provoking tale of the need to think for ourselves, to challenge popular politics, and think through the consequences of world views.
