In all honesty, I wanted a copy of this book not for myself, but to read to the children at the school I work in. I was delighted when I got my hands on a copy from readers first and couldn'twait to take it in to sgare it with them.
The kids absolutely loved it from start to finish which was brilliant. I think the main character, Max, was the kind of child that everyone could relate to. The mixture of boys and girls in the class sometimes makes choosing a story that appeals to everyone quite tricky, but this one really did grab the attention of the entire audience and I had many requests to read some more of 'Max' over the fortnight that we were reading it in class at the end of the days schooling.
With Covid 19 disrupting the lives of so many children and making it so different to what they were used to, it was comforting to read a story that broached a difficult subject so sensitively!
