I absolutely adored Max and was delighted to join him on his journey to one million (although I’m a fair bit older than him and the target audience for this book). The story was brilliant, touching upon some of the parts of the pandemic which caused the biggest upset to many children. As an NHS doctor I found myself with a lump in my throat reading about Max’s feelings about his medic dad and his role in the hospital. There were lots of amusing threads running through the story: the Team X, Z and pirates in school; the tricky number seven, the things grown ups do to hide information from children which almost certainly leads them to finding out soon in many cases. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and think that when my daughter is a little older, we will read it together and hopefully will help her make sense of some of the chaos of the past few years.
