My 10 year old son says this book gets 4.75 out of 5 so I rounded up to 5!

I was a bit worried reading this book as we are not totally through the pandemic however I am so glad I did. I read it aloud to my son each bedtime and he couldn’t get enough of it.

The book manages to be very poignant and nearly have you in tears a few times, but then switches to laugh out loud funny just in time to stop it being too much.

The humour is very dry and witty and my son loved each reference to the “floppy haired” prime minister. We laughed out loud about courgettes and all the tangents Max went off on.

Max was a brilliant character and the story managed to remind you of how difficult lockdown was for so many reasons while also making you feel thankful that things have moved on and there was some good to come from it.

Max’s mum is a great character and very relatable.

We highly recommend this book and think it will become a classic historical fiction!
