This is a book for children about a boy called Max, whose Mum suggests that he should go to his room and count to one hundred to help him calm down. However, Max is so upset about lockdown, and the situation that he finds himself in that he decides he will count to one million instead.
The counting doesn’t actually start until page 100, the first 99 pages are setting the scene and giving the reader some background about Max, his family, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the first lockdown.
There are some parts of the story that children will find amusing, but I’m not entirely convinced that they will want to read a book about the first lockdown, when we have been through so many. I think the timing of the book, unfortunately, isn’t quite right - it would probably have been more helpful for some children if it had been published during the earlier stages of the pandemic (I realise that this probably wasn’t possible, since the inspiration for the book comes from those lockdowns).
