“This book deserves One Million Stars!” was the review by my 10 year old.

This book is portrayed as one boy’s perspective of lockdown, the tragedy that hit us all and his parent’s one biggest priority through that time - don’t let your children worry. Max gets through it by counting to a million…..

As a parent of a child of a very similar age at the time lockdown started, much of this book reflects their exact experience. The sudden school closure, missing friends, minecraft, Thursday clapping….. I think it was super helpful as my son read this to see that his experience was not unusual - others were going through exactly the same.

Because the story is essentially the experience of that few months though, this release probably is a little late as most children have moved on and don’t necessarily want to be reminded too strongly of those days. There’s not a great deal else to give the book true depth of staying power so it does feel a little “of the moment” (hence only 4 stars not a million from me!)
