This book is brilliant. It made me laugh, it made me reflect but most of all it made me see the pandemic through an eight year olds eyes with their perspective. I assume this book is aimed at 9-12 year olds but as an adult it is a book I would read alongside my grandchildren and laugh at some parts and talk about others. The style of writing flows just how many eight year olds talk and is easy reading, it reminded me of the “Diary if a Wimpy Kid” series but with more series undertones subtly included. I loved the little swifts and their inclusions on the page corners- they after all are members of team X.
The pandemic was not an easy subject to cover with the gravity of the whole situation but is handled in such a way that youngsters could understand and cope without ending up with doomsday feelings.
The main character Max is feisty, adorable, cheeky and most of all empathetic. I love the fact that he thinks mums can organise anything by talking to other mums…. Probably than the floppy haired man….
