The title says it all. This is a book about a nine year old boy, Max, who is told to go to his bedroom and count to a hundred to calm down but decides to continue counting to a million instead. Max is worried about the Coronavirus pandemic - his father is a doctor who has to go and live in a hotel when not on shift so that he doesn’t risk accidentally infecting his family with the virus. Max misses his grandad and school friends when lockdown starts.
The thoughts of nine year old Max are poignant and funny.
I think everybody reading this book will be able to identify with the situations that Max describes - panic buying and shortages, home schooling, social distancing, cancelled birthday parties etc - and will find humour in recalling these through Max’s eyes.
I will be passing this book to my 9 year old granddaughter and look forward to hearing her thoughts about it. I’m sure she’s going to enjoy reading it as much as I did.
