We lived it, do we need to relive it?

It was always to be expected…. We’ve shared a global experience like no other in living memory and of course it is part of our shared heritage and something universal that will bind us like no other generation in living memory. That being said….

I’ve just lived through the last 2 years (and consider myself lucky to have done so in relative good health) - I don’t really want to relive it again through books, films or any sort of media.

While I accept we can’t just act like it never happened and it’s important to share our stories and learn from our mistakes, I feel there will be a deluge of pandemic literature coming and I’m not sure it’s necessary.

Whilst books like The Curios Incident of The Dog in the Night Time and Wonder offer a perspective from characters on the spectrum which were previously not well represented in fiction, combing that with the pandemic feels like this book is trying to tick too many boxes and instead falls short.

Perhaps some children will benefit from the “uplifting” story but I know my 8yo would choose Captain Underpants over this any day of the week.
