Well done Max! I did enjoy reading this and felt so pleased with what Max had accomplished and how he developed during the story. It is written as if Max is talking to you and he explains about all the goings on during 2020 and so much does happen.
The author has captured the child’s voice, as a chatty and endearing account of what it is like to be 8 years old during a pandemic and lockdown. The story manages to keep its momentum despite giving the plot away in the title (Max recognises this and confines with the reader that he has given away the story already!) I enjoyed the side notes/narrative or tangents that Max takes us on as this is in keeping with an 8 year old and they are often amusing and also educational on occasions.
I think good readers aged 7-10 years would enjoy this book. It includes humour that is suitable for this age and the reader feels like they know Max well by the end.
