This is a fun read and my 10 year old daughter absolutely loved it. and I enjoyed it. It has large easy to read print which is ideal for children. The main character, Max Mullers, loves magic and spends all his time practicing his tricks. He has a problem with the school bully and with the local Cray brothers who cause trouble locally. When he visits his grandmother he finds a locked chest which he opens to find he really does have magic powers but at first he uses them wrongly. His grandmother encourages him to use his powers for good. The ending leaves it open for there to be a sequel and hopefully Stephen Mulhern will write one. I think this book would be great for children who are reluctant readers or who struggle to read. The characters are great and I would recommend this book to both children and adults alike. You won’t be disappointed reading this one!
