I read this book together with my 9 year old. After the first impression I wasn't expecting to really get into it but after a couple of chapters we were both hooked. I love that Max got actual magic powers, every kids dream ! My son loved that it showed how to palm a coin at the end and he's been practicing that ever since. I liked the bullying theme and the way Max learnt not to fight bullying by being a bully himself. I wasn't really sure where the book was going and the ending was certainly a surprise but really great. I like the Grandma character and Max's friends. The book looks great as well with the blue edges to the pages and the illustrations are lively. We will definitely be looking out for more stories about Max to see what he does next with his magical powers. My son has lent the book to someone else to read now but he was very clear that he wants it back to read again.
