What a fantastic book; funny, entertaining and full of thrills.
I read this book to my grandson who is 6 and he thoroughly enjoyed it, he couldn't wait for bedtime so he could have the next bit.
Well rounded characters, beautifully written and the crayfish twins, truly brilliant. We laughed and were fully engrossed in how Max was going to get out of the scrapes and bother. The clever use of magic to aid the hero was I thought a very novel idea, in an era where wizards are everywhere, it made a refreshing change to have proper magic displayed, something that children can actually see in reality and be amazed by.
As a debut novel it delivers in every aspect and I applaud Stephen Mulhern on a unique and entertaining concept. I hope there will be more adventures for Max, my grandson can't wait for the next one. Thank you readers first for allowing me the privilege of reading this book.
