Good wholesome read for younger readers. I would say ideal for 7 to 11 years old. The book has some relatable themes, bullying and friendships at school. It also adds in the element of fun by introducing magic as a way to try and distract the bullies/ make friends. As you can imagine the magic doesn't always go to plan adding in some humour! I read this alongside my 7 and 10 year old daughters. They both enjoyed the book although I don't think it will be a favourite to read over and over again. The illustrations were good and definitely add to the story and helping you to use your imagination to visualise what was happening. I would be interested to see if there will be more books in the series and it would be great to add a female character that uses magic too. Overall the book is well written and the characters are developed well. Definitely an ideal gift.
