Stephen Mulhern has managed to deliver with the adventures of max and his friends, not forgetting his talking dog lucky! Well paced storyline and full of quirky humour and wonderful characters that create a great storyline. So max loves magic, but he does lack some skills, but his attitude is unrelenting and his loving family and devoted friends encourage him to keep trying. Then one day, after a bad bullying session with the school bully, max discovers real magic and is bestowed with the gift. The story then covers the moralistic approach max has to take, given his new powers. His friends help him to correct his mistakes and instead they all work together to make things better than they were initially. There are lots of great jokes strewn throughout and a great use of imagination has this first adventure leading you excitingly from chapter to chapter and the most adorable illustrations.
