I am obviously not the target audience for this book so I read it with my 7 year old daughter who loved it. I was very concerned this book wouldn’t be any good because it was written by Stephen Mulhern but it was very well written with Tom Easton. My daughter thought it was magical and as a child who loves watching magic and being mesmerised by it all she was super excited.
My daughter loved Max and though he was a great character. Max is captivated by magic and he is taught by his gran to do magic.
As my daughter is at school the bullying aspect of the story really resonated with her and is a great way to start a conversation with children about bullying and the consequences of it.
I would highly recommend magic max to children from about 6-10 and for kids who are just starting out reading novels.
