Reminded me of Harry Potter

This book definitely had a Harry Potter feel about it but that is in no way a criticism of the author as she has successfully created her own imaginary world and set of characters.

The book flowed well and I was soon drawn into the fantasy world of Annwn, with its Dreamers and the usual competing forces and of good and evil. I enjoyed the imagery and the inclusion of areas of London I know well, which gave a pleasant sense of reality to set against the fictional Annwn and added substance to the overall story.

The characters of Fern and Ollie were nicely drawn and the sections of the book set in the real world helped set the scene and gave some depth to the story.

I would imagine that the book is aimed at the younger market but with a fair amount of fear and gore it is probably more for early teens than the younger reader. Again, I would liken it more to the later Harry Potter books which took on a much darker feel.

The storyline was interesting enough to keep me reading but as is often the case with this type of book I found, by the time I got to the end, it was all a bit predictable but that may just be me. As said above, it is probably more suited to a younger reader who would be happy to get the lost in the fantasy world.

A good first book in what it said is going to be a trilogy, so I am looking forward to the next installment.
