This book is clearly written for a younger audience than myself, however that did not stop me from enjoying it.
The story follows Fern, a young girls whose appearance has branded her as a freak among her peers. When she discovers the Thanes of Annwn she is desperate to join in an attempt to find a place she belongs.
At first I struggled to engage with the main character, I found her bitter and self absorbed, always blaming others for her hatred. As the book progresses however, she softens and follows a path of self discovery and wider understanding of others.
The world created by the author is so rich, she is beautifully descriptive and it is everything you would expect and more from a world the is built by the collective imagination. I look forward to reading more from this author.
