Having seen a lot of social media buzz and rave reviews of this book I was excited to read it. I knew the subject matter would be heart wrenching but was fascinated by the premise of the twin perspectives.
Honestly I was a bit non plusses after the first few pages. Clearly here was an author who could turn out exquisite prose but the total effect felt overpowering and over written. I decided to press on for a few more pages because I'd seen such positives from trusted reviewers. I'm so glad that I did as the tone and style settled. The juxtaposition of the horrors of the subject matter with such poetic writing was moving, sometimes unsettling but always respectful of the story being told. Almost a 5 star but given the shaky start and an ending that's just a bit to neat and coincidental I dropped a star. Well worth a read though.
