Very moving account of a set of girl twins in Mengele's 'Zoo' in concentration camp. Doesn't dwell too much on the horrific things done to the children but explores the connections between the girls; how one would physically feel what was done to the other - part of what fascinated Mengele and prompted his so-called research. Beautifully written, with a chapter by each girl in turn, showing how they used memories and little routines to get them through these horrible years, how they tried to protect each other and how they and other inmates formed almost family groups to look after each other. Unexpectedly, a 'happy ending'. A book I'll remember for a long time. Would quiet honesty recommend.
