This is the kind of book that I would usually go for at this time of the year. I'm a seasonal reader and I always like to choose historical fiction during the autumn and winter months, but as this was the first historical book that I have read in a couple of months I found it hard to get into. I enjoyed the writing style and the story was well thought out, but I just didn't click with this book in the way that I was hoping to. I think that anyone who enjoys history-themed books like this would like reading it - and don't get me wrong, I did like it - but it just didn't feel like the kind of thing I wanted to read at the time and I felt like I was forcing myself to read it rather than wanting to read it. Overall, the writing was very good, the story was well set out and the pace of the story works well. I also felt the characters were done really well. I just wish I'd enjoyed it more. Maybe I'll reread it again at some point to give it another chance.
