A brilliant second trip to the Buckingham Hotel. These characters are explored in so much depth - I truly felt like they were friends of mine. They develop so much in this novel too, we see sides of them that we have never seen before.

Du Beke has really done his research about the era and the political and social tensions of pre-war Europe. He gets the content of political debate spot on, and I loved that the story takes us to the deprived areas of Whitehall to give a stark and harrowing contrast between life and the Buckingham Hotel and life for the poor. This tale is as much a tale about rectifying social injustices as it is about a hotel's unfortunate happenings.

This saga never fails to surprise me, I cannot wait for the 3rd instalment!
