I absolutely loved the magical, nostalgic feeling of Anton De Beke's debut novel One Enchanted Evening from 2018, so I was delighted to learn that he had not only written a second novel, but a sequel in which he returns to the Buckingham Hotel and the characters we have come to know well in One Enchated Evening. Based in London in 1937, Moonlight in Mayfair revisits the life of hotel chambermaid Nancy Nettleton and spoiled rich guest Vivienne Edgerton and their own individual social and economic stuggles at different ends of the class system. This is one of the best fictional novels based on real-life historical situations that I have ever read. The details that De Beke adds to the novel makes the hotel and London itself come to life, and gives a nostalgic twist to them so that you can impage yourself in pre-war London, and this is exactly what he hoped to achieve. The setting is exciting, the characters are interesting and the writing is terrific. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. Great writer and I hope he writes more as I will collect them all! Dancing is not his only talent.
