Continuing Anton's upstairs/downstairs look at life in a grand London hotel in the 1930s. The focus shifts slightly from Nancy and Ray to other characters this time, and again the pre-War politics and social climate are never distant from the main storylines.

I didn't love it quite as much as the first book, maybe because the story was spread between more characters, or maybe because I didn't initially believe quite as wholeheartedly in Frank, Nancy's anxious younger brother who joins the hotel as a page. I think a couple of relationship tropes may have been stumbled into as well, which disappointed me a little.

All that being said, I still enjoyed this immensely, I loved watching the confidence of Vivienne, Nancy and Frank grow throughout the book, I care what happens to these characters and I'll definitely be waiting for the next episode!
