I did not read the first novel in this series, but I found that the story was sufficiently written for me to know what was going on in the story.
This is not the sort of book that I would normally read, but I did enjoy it. The list of characters at the start is useful and I found that I referred back to it a few times, particularly at the start. There are a lot of things going on with the characters, but if you are paying attention while reading then it is easy to keep up with what is going on with who. I wouldn’t have said that I found this an easy read compared to some other books that I have read, but once I was engrossed in the story I found that I wanted to continue reading it. I would be interested in reading another book in the series. It reminded me of Downton Abbey, but set in a hotel instead, so I think that Downton fans would get on well with it. I felt that the characters and storyline were well developed and the story had good pacing.
