I haven’t read the first in this series but I didn’t feel that holding me back as I joined the residents of the Buckingham Hotel in their day to day lives. However for the most enjoyment I would recommend reading them both - I’m going to purchase the first!
This book is set in 1937s London and I felt that he really captured the feeling of the era with the subtle underlying tensions of the Great Depression and the whisperings of war. I thought the characters were really well rounded, the plot was driven, the general atmosphere was one of glitz and the hint of mystery just enough to add some spice. I expected very little else of Anton du Bec who I think writes as well as he drags politicians across the floor!
