I like the cover. Garden gate next to the sea does seem to feature on a lot of books at the moment, but I love the coast as a setting so appeals to me.
The book? First impressions very middle class, Home Counties, life-long Conservative voting family I'm afraid which has put me right off, I must admit. Even Tom's family, though from the North - Harrogate and North Allerton - pretty affluent areas. I normally like a good family drama but Martha is beginning to grate already. Yet I'm thinking there might be more to this book than first impressions and you certainly don't have to like a character to still enjoy a book. Could I put my inverted snobbery to one side and take a chance on this book? I can't decide, I'm certainly tempted.
