I haven’t read any of Erica James’ novels before, but the summary and the promise of mystery and long-buried family secrets prompted me to read the first look chapters, and I’m really glad I did. Based on the cover and title, I might not have picked up “Mothers and Daughters” if I had seen it on the shelf in a bookshop, but James’ writing drew me straight in, with the personable characters and hints at puzzles and intrigues below the surface piquing my interest. I’m keen to know what happens to the three central female characters and their relationships, both with each other and with other characters. I’m intrigued to find out what secrets they are all hiding. Plus, it will be interesting to read a novel set in COVID times, which I guess will influence much of the action (or, perhaps more accurately, inaction).
