I was keen to read this book from the blurb however I found it a bit average. What I liked was the exploration of the complex relationship between the sisters and their mother and how they all come to understand each other more throughout the book. Some aspects bugged me though as I found it a bit over the top that Martha and Tom are so upset about not getting pregnant, this was written as if they had been trying for years not a few months. Also then when she does get pregnant she doesn't bother going for a scan as she's too busy at work? Also as the book is set just post pandemic it doesn't seem like research has been done properly as partners are still not allowed in the waiting room for scans or in on the birth until active labour. Little details but irritating. The book does give a good insight into domestic abuse, shame surrounding this and family secrets however I felt like the ending was a bit random and a bit 'convenient' I don't think many women get to escape abuse that easily.
