Okay, so this had me hooked from page one (and I've only read 22 pages!). I really like the trope of meeting people again after years, and this looks like there will be a really interesting story to tell of the intervening time. Jeff's bravery in dragging the swimmer to shore and performing mouth to mouth is heroic and admirable - it's as though he has his first shot at being a 'real' adult after his girlfriend leaves him. But something is off - he's unacknowledged, the medics fail to recognise him as the saviour; people look at him oddly afterwards. And that pivotal moment where he expects the swimmer to say 'You saved me' never comes. The author described this so well - Jeff wants to say 'I saved you', but knowing that's not 'correct' things go unsaid. There's a real feeling that something has gone wrong, even though he's saved this man's life. A sense that things are going to go badly...

I also like that it's told from the PoV of his friend listening to his story, so at one stage removed, and we'll hopefully hear more from this character too (particularly because he's an author!).

The cover is sort of pop graphic design but with a really subtle and nicely done edge to it. This book is going to be great!
