First of all the cover. The silhouette of a man with the white glasses hidden by smoke and a text keeping a sense of mystery and ambiguity needed in a thriller novel.

The premise also excites me. Spilling all his secrets and life story to a stranger, something that is easier to do than telling a close family member of friend.
I also liked the connection that their lives start to have, the idea that a decision can connect someone to you and influence your later life. And the craving for power and wealth that arrives when you get a taste was also tested in the synopsis of this book.
