This is a fairly short (under 200 pages) intellectual read about two university acquaintances meeting by chance twenty years later at an airport, one a struggling writer, the other (Jeff) an art dealer. Jeff invites the writer to join him in the first class lounge and thereafter decides to tell the writer his story starting with when he saved a man’s life and the obsession that then developed. This is a fairly slow paced unconventional tale with complex but not overly likeable main characters. Although lacking in action this is a work of art, slowly building up a picture of both Jeff and that the man whose life he saved. It makes you consider whether such thing as fate or Jeff himself lead to him living the life he now lives and leaves you wondering if he lives a life full of regrets or would actually do it all again. Overall this is a very thought provoking read.
