This is my first experience of Lydia Syson’s writing and I was very impressed. For a first delve into adult literature this is an impressive piece of work. We go back to the 19th century and follow the Peacock family of many origins. Me peacock was an ambitious man and his new plan involves an island where they become the sole inhabitants. A group comes to help cultivate the land and we learn more about the history of the island as the story progresses. This is very well written with obvious differences between the two groups on the island. The family and those of origin. They are more literate and have strong faith.
