For Fans of All Genres
The fact that this book is historical fiction initially put me off starting it as it's not a genre I'm a fan of, however the story and characters are so well written that this was a total non-issue.
This is the story of a family of settlers and a group of 'Islanders' from a Missionary, sent to help the family tame their new home. The themes of humanity, culture, family, courage and ownership are explored and presented in fully accessible and relatable ways - I felt like I could empathise with every character even though the range of their views and actions are vast. The detail in describing the island takes you there - I could smell and taste it.
The pacing of the story threads is spot on, By the last 100 pages I couldn't put it down, I was hungry to know how everyone's story would end...and I wasn't disappointed. It's a thoroughly great read.
