When I first read the synopsis for this I thought 'oooh....that sounds similar to The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver'....and as I loved that book I was eager to read this one too.
Well, they are sort of similar but this is kind of the knock-off Primark version of a brilliant book....it sort of is the same but the qualities not as good and it won't stand the test of time and stay with me long after I've finished reading.
The author's clearly really done her research on the period and subject matter and I can't fault the book for that, but ultimately I was left feeling slightly disappointed that it didn't live up to my high expectations....maybe I set the bar too high in comparing it to Poisonwood.
