I always say that I wish books were more real, but now that I’ve read a real one, I don’t think I’m a fan. Usually, books romanticize, whether it be over the top, or just a small aspect, but this one was 100% real. I didn’t like it, and I hate having to say that I really don’t like writing negative posts. I know you can’t like every book you read, but I just feel bad for the author when I criticize their work that they spent so long on.

My Heart Goes Bang is such a good representation of British university culture, and I can credit Stainton for portraying it so accurately. It was pretty much a look into the lives of these five girls, and the struggles that come along with it. There wasn’t much of a plot, and it just felt like scenes that never really connected to one another.

I thought that their fuck it list would play a much bigger role than it did, with it barely making an appearance, I thought it would be what the book was based on. It was only mentioned a handful of times, and when they referred to it at the end, they didn’t bother to crown a winner, and it felt a bit flat, not just the ending, but throughout.

The characters in this book didn’t entertain me like I thought they would have. As some one who has lived with other girls during my three years of university, I can safely say that this book didn’t highlight any negative aspects of it, such as the arguments that you always find yourself falling into with who you live with. I’m not saying they’re not manageable, but there will definitely be a few bust ups here and there, leading to some people not talking for a while, but this book showed five girls who seemed to never have a problem with any of the others which is probably the one misrepresentation of the uni experience.

None of the girls really intrigued me, either, they felt a bit all over the place, but also not as developed at the same time. If I was asked, I don’t think I could tell you a fact about either of them as I found that they all somehow merged into one. I’m sure they had their own developed personality, but I didn’t see it presented as well as it could have been.

A short one for a book I don’t have much to say about. It’s a shame that this book wasn’t for me, I really wanted to to enjoy it, as I know the university experience well, and while it was an accurate representation, there are more elements that could have been included.
