"Heidi and Jason aren't like other couples.
Six years ago, Heidi's daughter was murdered. A year later, Jason's son Barney disappeared. Their shared loss brought them together.
By chance, Heidi meets a boy she's certain is Barney. But Jason is equally convinced it's not him.
Is Heidi mad? Or is Jason hiding something? And can their fragile marriage survive Heidi's newfound quest for the truth .
You'd always recognise your own son. Wouldn't you?"

This book started off well, but I am afraid it lost it's way a bit in the middle and the ending was a disappointing damp squib for me. I wanted more from the intrigue surrounding the disappearance of Barney and whether he would ever eventually find his way back home. Instead it felt a bit more like a weak whodunnit with Heidi running around trying to find, follow and bring home the child she thought was Barney, keep her job, deal with Jason and his ex Vicky having secrets and also trying for another baby. The storyline surrounding her and Tommy, the lecherous cafe owner a few doors down from where she sees the child, irritated me and added a sense of disbelief and nonsense to the book and I skim read those parts as I felt them unnecessary and ludicrous.

Nevertheless, I read the book in only a few days because it kept drawing me back in and I really wanted to know if the child was Barney, and what actually happened on that fateful day he went missing. I think this is Deborah's debut novel, and I would certainly try another book of hers.
