Heidi and Jason are held together by their individual losses. But when Heidi sees a boy she thinks could be Jason's missing son, their relationship takes the strain of her pursuit for the truth.

I loved the concept. I thought the plot was great and the ending shocked me - it took me a hot minute to actually work out what had happened.

I did, however, think the book moved along quite slowly, with nothing really happening to build up the reader's opinion until around the half-way mark. The writing style grated on me for a reason currently unknown (possibly something to do with the first person narration that was fairly child-like despite the narrator being in their late thirties).

So much second hand embarrassment!

Obviously, I can never understand the extent of the situation or even begin to place myself in their shoes but some of the things our main character did! I just couldn't believe it - I had to put the book down a few times to get over the embarrassment caused.

I still don't really understand how everything pulled together at the end, and why the main character did what she did (throughout the book, her choices left me frustrated). I also struggled with the nature of relationships and the constant referral to a character who, ultimately, added nothing to the book apart from a bit of drama.

5/5 for plot... 2/5 for my enjoyment of the writing. Overall: 3/5
