So I have mixed opinions about this book. At times I loved it and at times I disliked it. Maybe that was the intention on the authors part. Almost creating a parallel with the book and your own ‘dysfunctional’ family: a love-hate relationship.
Let’s start with the things I disliked. I hated how in-depth each character was explored. There seemed to be stories or anecdotes that seemed irrelevant to the plot.
I hated the ending. The story of her Mother breastfeeding her sister had more emotion than the actual ending and this saddened me.
And the constant reference to their mother with her given name confused me. Originally I thought maybe there would be a reference to the reason they called her by her given name but no. At first I wasn’t sure if she was a sister or not.
Now the things I liked. I enjoyed the way the book was written. The author has a way with words that were smart, clever and funny. She perfectly encompassed gen X’s lack of ability to be in the present moment without social media and the accessibility to instant gratification.
At points this book made me laugh out loud and other times I had to force myself to continue reading. I’m not sure about this book.
