My Not So Functional Family is a charming holiday read. It has all the hallmarks of a decent 'chick-lit' novel; the outrageously dysfunctional characters, the nods to current trends, the slightly posh setting and, above all, the prospect of a doomed wedding! From the outset, the reader is brought into the family, sharing their 'in-jokes' and, through Brodie Jabour's delightful style, developing the sense of familial bonds that are so strong yet pulled in every direction. There's definitely an insider and outsider feel to the novel, with characters such as Dylan being painted as just slightly out of sync with the family itself. If you enjoy authors such as Sophie Kinsella, then this book definitely needs a place on your summer reading list.
