Messy and Tasteless

What should’ve been a lighthearted fluffy contemporary turned out to be a disaster of a book. The first impressions seemed so promising but it was just a messy book with dialogue that came across as forced and one-dimensional. The characters are all just complete nightmares, I hated every one of them as it was obvious the author was trying to make them comical, but it just felt awkward and they had nothing interesting about them at all. I felt that the use of jokes about terrorism and the sarcastic remarks about assuming gender and sexuality were just unnecessary/tasteless. One thing I did enjoy was the formatting - the use of texts to convey dialogue was good as it changed things up a bit.
I despise being negative in my reviews but I really struggled with this and wished I had never read it to the end.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Readers First for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
