So the cover of this book looks fun - 4 siblings propping up the title - its cute. I can't say the same for the story inside - jeepers what an irritating bunch of narcissistic, selfish people this family are. Led by Mum Rachel (overbearing) this family has no redeeming features whatsoever. They're secretive, distant, cold and thoroughly unlikeable.
Therein lies the problem - if you dislike every single character then, ultimately, you just don't care what they do or what happens to them.
The central character, Claudia, has been persuaded back to her small minded home town to get married. Her siblings and best friend also pretty much seem to be there against their will - clearly it's not going to end well.
The whole thing limps to an inevitable messy family show down (and in fairness some of the dialogue at the disastrous family meal did make me laugh out loud) but I just couldn't care less. In fact I was slightly disappointed that the horrid mother didn't get killed by one of her equally horrid kids. Not for me.
