A clever, fast-paced and dark tale about sisterly love and murder
My Sister, The Serial Killer is an original and witty story about a selfless and stoical nurse named Korede and her alluring yet lethal younger sister Ayoola, who has a habit of killing her boyfriends. Set in modern-day Lagos, Nigeria, it is an edgy tale with razor-sharp prose, strong female protagonists and a brisk pace that kept me racing through the short chapters. The novel is both dark and light in that it explores a range of sinister yet thought-provoking themes while remaining a quick, easy and humorous read. Oyinkan Braithwaite's fluid and engaging writing style oozes confidence and respect; it is hard to believe that this is her debut novel. She is a talented new voice in contemporary fiction and is definitely one to watch. Highly recommended.
