“I know better than to take life directions from someone without a moral compass”

This fiction novel is set in Nigeria and follows the life of Korede. Korede lives a simple life and works at a local hospital as a nurse where she is secretly in love with one of the doctors. However, her life isn’t as simple as it first appears because her sister is a serial killer... Ayoola is the “pretty sister” who calls on Korede for help cleaning up her murders that she claims are in self defence. Due to sibling love Korede does not report her sister to the police and instead arrives obediently at each crime scene with her water bucket and bleach. Korede ends up in a moral dilemma when Ayoola starts dating the doctor at Korede’s work and knows that saving one means sacrificing the other.

I go back and forth constantly on what I would rate this book and have landed on a 3/5. I got through it in one day as the chapters are short and it is fast paced. For me there was something missing especially in terms of character development but that comes down to personal preference. I also felt the ending was very abrupt but this did fit with the overall feel of the novel. The strange thing is that even though I’ve rated it a 3/5 I would still recommend reading it if you have it in your collection or notice it in a charity shop.

It’s a great book for if you’re in a reading slump!
