What a wonderfully wicked little book this is! It tells the story of Korede and her younger sister, Ayoola, who seems to have a small problem - she has killed her last three boyfriends. As the older sister, Korede is torn between protecting her sister and trying to save her next victim. Although on the surface this is a book about killing your boyfriend and how best to clean it up, the narrative has a lot more depth than you might expect, particularly given the short length. The prose is really accessible and the plot moves at a good pace which makes it very easy to read in one setting. What I really loved was the exploration of what it means to be a sister and how it is to walk through the world as the object of desire. Braithwaite has some very insightful comments to make about the treatment of women in society and the importance of family and all in all, this is a very fun and thoughtful book.
I received a free copy of this book from Readers First in exchange for a fair and honest review.
