This is a fun and darkly comic story. It was also a very quick read, with short chapters never more than four pages, some only a few sentences. I read it in a two hour sitting, the chapters were short I just kept reading “one more chapter”
.
Korede is a great character who is conflicted over her sister’s behaviour. She is loyal to Ayoola, but also jealous of her and her relationships with Tade, the doctor she loves, and her mother, who lets Ayoola get away with anything. She starts the book quite serious and in control but starts to unravel as her sister’s behaviour starts to impact her own life more. Their relationship is central to this story, both their love and conflicts but also the responsibility that has been given to Korede as the older sibling, and I really liked the way the author portrayed this.

The size of the book and chapters did mean that there wasn’t time to fully dig in to the characters, particularly Tade, who is a big source of conflict for the sisters. I would have liked a little more time spent on them to really understand the characters and their motives. It also had a quick ending, that could have been fleshed out a little more.
.
Overall though this is a fresh, sharp and fast-paced story, and I really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to reading more by the author.
