This book is perfect for YA readers as it covers their age group, their character base and their themes. However, it’s also a great read for adults too.

Based around the protagonist, Nicky, we see how she has various challenges with her mother. Having that lack of support means it’s difficult and when she finds herself homeless, her problems only increase.

She makes the difficult decision to leave and move to California. She’s desperate to pursue her music dreams and ambitions.

Yet, this plan is stopped when her best friend tries to convince her to stay in Texas. He spends spring break persuading her and showing her all the reasons why she’s better off staying out and why moving wouldn’t be a good idea.

It isn’t plain sailing though as during this time her little sister goes missing, meaning their plans are all interrupted. In true YA style, a whole host of emotions are presented and worked through. What will she decide to do and can she find her sister?
